As regional blog Uzar News reports, a large collective of cities in Poland are taking advantage of World Environment Day and making today A Day Without a Plastic Bag:

On the 5th of June on World Environment Day, volunteers on the streets of about fifty cities involved in the project will collect signatures to force through amendments in the law. Organizers are to give out as many as 100,000 ecological, reusable bags with the logo of the campaign: “Don’t take a plastic bag” on the bags.

The article puts the verified-signature count at 33,000 so far, with 100,000 needed by June 27th to be sent to Parliament to request legislation and policy reform in the widespread usage of disposable plastic bags. Also mentioned, international supermarket chain Carrefour plans to discontinue its usage of plastic bags today in favor of reusables.
